Her early life
Born as Patricia Jinich on March 30, 1972, Pati Jinich is from Mexico City. She was born into a family which have roots that belong to both Mexican and Jewish heritage. From a young age only, the culinary world had a huge influence in her life by her parents and three older sisters. All of her sisters have a career in the culinary arts.
Her grandparents were Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe who later settled in Mexico. This migration also added a cultural laer to her upbringing. Pati had initially pursued an education in political science from the Instituto Technological Autonomo d Mexico. Later on, she gained he master’s in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. Even though she had incredible academic excellence and a great job, she later shifted toward the culinary world.
This transition was enhanced when she moved to Texas with her husband. She later started exploring and sharing Mexican culinary traditions which launched her successful career as a chef, television host, and cookbook author.
Parents
Pati’s parents have played a huge role in shaping her culinary journey. While the names and specific details are not disclosed about her parents, it was found that the parents have a mixed Mexican-Jewish heritage. Her mother had a background of Austrian-Czech parents who were also refugees from World War II and later reestablished themselves in Mexico as successful silversmiths.
Her father was initially an architect who later on shifted toward the restaurant business. This gave the patient exposure to the hospitality industry. Her mother had an involvement in the art gallery which played a huge role in adding a creative dimension to their family life.
From one of the Facebook posts from Pati, it was revealed that her parents have been divorced for 30 years. She was having dinner with them. She wrote, “Well… they’ve been divorced for over 30 years and it took a little nudging but we ate together. I’m telling you, my parents can be so funny together…”
Siblings
Pati Jinich is the youngest of 4 siblings. She has three elder sisters who have made huge contributions to her culinary world. Her eldest sister is Alisa Romano who is known as a skilled chef and bread maker. She has mastered both French and Mexican cuisines. Her master’s and expertise have marked her name in the art of making.
Similarly, another sister of Pati, Karen Drijanski has left her mark by establishing two successful restaurants in Mexico City. Being a restauranter, her passion for hospitality and gastronomy provides her with a name in the culinary world. Now, her sister Sharon Drijanski is also involved in the culinary world as she has written a cookbook titled, “Comida Sana” which is also a vegetarian cookbook emphasizing healthy eating.
Pati is very close to her sisters and often posts about them through her social media handles. In one of her posts on the women’s day, she was seen appreciating them.
She wrote, “Blessed and lucky to have been born the youngest of these 4 sisters. To have three smart, strong, nurturing, and loving sisters and friends: who have shared so much laughter, sometimes more than our share of tears, and lots of lessons learned. Las adoro. For us and every woman: it’s local, national, and #internationalwomensday every single day.”

Relationship
Pati Jinich holds a very simple and profound relationship with her long-time husband, Daniel Jinich. The couple met on a blind date which led to their marriage in 1996 when Pati was only 24 years old. Together their life revolved around a healthy family with a shared love for food.
Daniel Jinich, like Pati, is also from Mexico. The couple has three sons together and they are raising them together in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
